What is a
Z-score?
Unlike standard BMI which compares you to all adults, a Z-score (standard deviation score) compares your baby to a healthy global median of the same exact age and gender.
σ = Standard Deviation
It measures how far away your baby is from the "average" healthy baby.
WHO Standards
The calculator uses the World Health Organization Multi-centre Growth Reference Study (MGRS) data.
| Z-Score Range | WHO Significance | Medical Action |
|---|---|---|
| +3 to +2 | Overweight | Lifestyle Review |
| +1 to -1 | Normal / Median | Routine Monitoring |
| -2 to -3 | Wasted (Underweight) | Nutritional Consultation |
| Less than -3 | Severely Wasted | Urgent Clinical Intervention |
